UNITED PLASTICS GROUP, INC. TO CLOSE TWO TEXAS FACILITIES

WESTMONT, IL - September 27, 2001 - United Plastics Group, Inc. (UPG), announced today that it is closing manufacturing facilities in Gladewater and Pharr, Texas as part of a continuing corporate restructuring initiative to strengthen and grow the company.

"This difficult decision is necessary to strengthen United Plastics Group, Inc.'s position in the global and highly-competitive injection molding business" said Shannon White, UPG's CEO.

The Pharr and Gladewater facilities are expected to close by December 31, 2001, with some 170 United Plastics Group, Inc. associates affected by the closings. A comprehensive separation package, including severance pay and continuation of medical and dental benefits, will be provided to affected employees. UPG will work closely with the Dislocated Worker Unit of the Texas Workforce Commissions Work Force Development Division to assist personnel in finding new employment opportunities.

As part of this restructuring, UPG will be moving its El Paso, TX plant into a newer and larger facility and is exploring additional growth opportunities in China and Southeast Asia.

"We are strategically restructuring and reallocating our manufacturing resources to best meet the growing changes and needs of our entire customer base," continued White. "Taken together, these initiatives further strengthen our position as a worldwide leading manufacturer of high quality, low cost engineered injection molded products and services."
